World of Naruto

The world of naruto consists of five large countries, and several small contries. Each one represents one of the five elements. The five larger countries, who are the most powerful and influential, each have a Kage, the most powerful ninja in the village. Each country has its own hidden village what contains the most powerful ninjas. The five major countries are the country of fire, country of lightning, country of water, country of earth, and the country of wind.

The Land of Earth

From a geographic view, the mountains appear to act as a border, making it difficult for other countries to communicate. It’s scattered with caves and mountains. Their hidden village is Iwagakure, the Village Hidden in the rocks. Iwagakure is the home of Tsuchikage, and at one time, Iwagakure had the four tails and the five tails demon. Iwagakure was also the home of Akatsuki’s Deidara.

The Land of Water

Kirikagure, the Land of Water, is home of the Mizukage. It is also where the Seven ninja swordsmen of the Mist originated. It has several mountains in the background, and just like its name, the village is surrounded by mist which can make it difficult for foreigners to navigate through. Kirigakure is known for having a violent graduation ritual. It is also the only country amongst the Great Shinobi Villages who has not participated in any large scale conflict.

The Land of Fire

The land of Fire is home to the Hokage and Hidden Village of the Leaves. Of the five nations, the Land of Fire is said to be the mightiest. The landscape is covered with greenery and trees, and because of it borders, many of the other surrounding countries, the Land of Fire heavily trades with other countries making it one of the strongest economically.

The Land of Lightning

Kumogakure is the Hidden Village of the Land of Lightning and home of Raikage. They also excel in swordsmanship. The village istelc is located on a mountain, and just like the name, hidden in the clouds. Kumogakure is also home to the Eight-Tailed beast and at one point, was home to the Two-Tailed beast. Kumogakure is also the only of the five nations who do not have any members apart of Akatsuki, are are able to fully control their Jinchuuriki.

The Land of Wind

Sunagakure is home of the Kazekage. During some time, the village obtained the One-Tailed beast. In time, the beast was sealed into two different hosts so that its abilities could be observed. Sunagakure is also the former home of Akatsuki member, Sasori. Sunagakure, with the help of Orochimaru, planned to invade Konohagakure, but failed and lost the Fourth Kazekage in the process. When Orochimarus treachery was discovery, Sunagakure re-allied itself with Konohagakure.

Byakugan

When activated, the user gains an extreme amount of sensory perception, allowing them to have penetrating sight and telescopic vision. This allows the user to see the chakra circulatory system in other beings; in addition, it also grants the user 360º vision of their surroundings. The stronger the user, the farther he can sense incoming attacks. However, with this extreme vision is a small blind spot that’s located near the back of the neck. This is it’s only known weakness. Byakugan users can detect anything

around them within a 50 meter radius. The fact that they have penetrating vision that can even see through all matter makes this extremely useful for tracking, searching, and identifying targets. One of the more powerfull aspects of the Byakugan is to be able to see the inner chakra circulatory system

Up Close..

The normal eye for (left) Hyuuga clan members is much different from a normal human eye. The eye does contain an iris and pupil, but are barely noticeable as they are both a creamy white color. The Pupil itself is larger than most human pupils.

Once the eye is fully activated (right), the hidden iris and pupil becomes more visible. Veins near the temples bulge and become more visible.

Chakra

Simply put, Chakra is the energy you use when performing a jutsu. So, in order to perform techniques/jutsu’s, the Chakra can come from two locations: the cells in Your body, and the mental and spiritual energy thats gained from training and experience.

Ninja’s with experienced chakra control can perform jutsus using the minimal amount. However, poor chakra control users will use more chakra than needed to complete their jutsu.

The flow of chakra is possible via circulatory system. From a microscopic level, there are hundred of small channel pathways that are connected to the vital points through out the body. These channels carry the flow of the chakra and allow the user to mold it. However, if these channels are severely damaged, not even the most skilled medical ninja would be able to repair it unfortunately. From a large scale, the chakra circulatory system includes 361 tenketsu, which are tiny points on the system which the chakra is allowed to flow.

The Byakugan and the Hyuuga clan’s Juuken, also known as Gentle Fist attack, allows them to eject chakra from their hands and into the tenketsu of other opponents. This type of attack will block the flow of chakra that comes from these tiny points within the circulatory system, rendering chakra flow. With enough tenketsu closed, your flow of chakra will be heavily reduced, if not to nothing; thus, eliminating your ability to perform jutsu. And because ninja can not train their internal organs, the damage done to the tenketsu will also damage nearby organs. Such attacks and be devastating and life-threatning.

Chakra Types

Blue Chakra

In the anime series, blue colored chakra is the normal color for Chakra. While in the manga, it’s said to be yellowish.

Green Chakra

This type of chakra which is associated with medical ninja, is used to repair wounds and heal. When used, the color of the chakra is seen as green.

Pink-Purple Chakra

Meditation and prayer around the Hidden Star meteor, gave it’s ninja the power to emit a Purple-Pinkish type of color.

Purple Chakra

This color of chakra is associated with both Orochimaru and those who are infected with his seal. When chakra is seen from either, the color of chakra is seen as purple.

Red Chakra

The Jinchuuriki, Kyuubi, is sealed inside naruto. When naruto uses Kyuubi’s power, his chakra takes on a red color.

The Use of Chakra

Chakra can be emitted from the body for both offense and defense. For example, chakra strings used to manipulate puppets in Kugutsu no Jutsu. It can be used for cutting or even as a defensive barrier. By using an equal and steady amount of chakra to a part of the body, ninjas are able to attach themselves to the desired object. This also means that they are able to walk vertical surfaces such a buildings and trees. By releasing a steady flow of chakra from their feet in proportion to their weight, they can also walk on water. Furthermore, ninja can focus chakra on specific areas such a limbs, which will increase the muscles power and strength.

The chakra that’s located in the brain and sensory organs are the primary source of Genjutsu. Genjutsu is created when a ninja extends their chakra flow through the cerebral nervous system to control their opponents mind chakra. There are two ways to counter the effects of Genjutsu. First option is to have a ninja who’s unaffected by the genjutsu to use their chakra to disrupt the casters flow. The second method requires you to stop the chakra flow in your body and then using an even stronger force to disrupt the casters flow.

In addition to tenketsu, the chakra circulatory system also hold eight valves that regulate the chakra flow. The eight gates are located along the spinal cord, the heart, and the head. It is possible to force open these gates within the body which allows the ninja to use a higher amplified (10x) power.

Consequently, with each gate that is opened, the user does more damage to their body and comes closer to death. For this reason alone, the gate opening has been deemed Kinjutsu (Forbidden). If all gates are opened, the ninja can gain a temporary power that will surpass that of the Hokage; unfortunately, at the cost of their own life. Moreover, if the ninja opens fewer gates than that, they will be severely weakened and rendered defenseless, unable to counter attack if a finishing blow isn’t dealt to the opponent prior to the gates’ opening taking affect.

Bloodlines

Bloodline Limits(genetics) are inherited traits/techniques (jutsu’s) that have been passed down from generation to generation via clan. There are very few who have this unique ability, and to the few that have them, they are usually very strong and considered genuises because of what they can do. Bloodline limits can increase speed, stamina, strength, or any other type of combat. This is essentially genetics, so these abilities can not be copied or learned by someone else outside the clan.

User: Haku

This unnamed ice ability is the blood limit of the clan Haku obtained from the Water country. The bloodline limit manipulates both water and wind elements. The clan originally lived on the water country, but was continuously blamed for the wars; as a result, the citizens of the water country killed most of the clan. Haku’s mother fled the country and married a citizen from the Water Country. When he found out that she had passed those abilites onto her son, he killed her and tried to kill HakuUnable to fully control his powers at this time, Haku created an protective ice-spike structure to shield him from his father. While doing so, he accidentally took the life of his father leaving him him alone without a family. He was later picked up by Momochi Zabuza for his own motives.

Haku’s power allows him to manipulate water and to freeze it into verious forms of ice. He is able to form most of his jutsu through one-handed seals which is something most ninja cant do. His two primary uses of ability are sensatsu suishou and makyou hyoshou.

Sensatsu Suishou is manipulating water into ice sebon. This technique is performed by Haku kicking water, the water that was initially kicked is froze upon rising, forming “a thousand needles”.

Makyou Hyoushou is a technique which uses nearby water to form long and thin-flat ice mirros. They are placed 360º around the target. Haku is then able to enter these mirrors, and travel from each one at lighting speed. When this is done, he is able to attack from all directions at very fast speeds.

Shikotsu Myaku – Corpse Bone Pathways
User: Kaguya Kimimaro

The Shikotsu Myaku is a bloodline limit from the Kaguya Clan. Kimimaro is the only member left of this clan after it was whiped out, unfortunately. The special of this bloodline allows the user to manipulate his or her bone structure. They can remove the bones from their bodies at will, and use them as weapons. Furthermore, they are able to change the density of the bones, making them as hard as steel.

Ranmaru’s Unnamed Bloodline
User: Ranmaru

Ranmaru is the only user of the bloodline that is alive. He has the ability to use his vision to exceed the walls of his small shack, and see the outside world.

This ability doesnt have the range of the Byakugan; however, Ranmu is able to see to see a persons life forse, far exceeding the Hyuuga’s internal chakra perception.

If Ranmaru was aware of someone who had recently fallen in battle, he would be able to sense if they were alive or not, something the Byakugan can not sense.

Ranmaru can also extend his chakra into red dust-like particles that allows him to create phantoms and hide his own chakra presence. Even more interesting, they can also create life-like chakra flows to confuse both normal ninja and Byakuygan users.

Sharingan (Copying Wheel Eye)
User: Uchiha Itachi, Uchiha Sauske, Katake Kakashi, Uchiha Madara

The Sharingan, which translates to Copy Wheel Eyes, is the Uchiha Clans Bloodline limit. This is the most desired and wanted bloodline throught out the world of Naruto. The eye is said to have decended from the Hyuuga clan who possess the bloodline of the Byakugan eye..

The sharingan most popular feature is the ability to mimic attacks. This eye is able to copy taijutsu, ninjutsu, and genjutsu with perfect accuracy. In order to use a copied jutsu, the user must have the needed skill to perform the technique. In addition, the eye is so focused, it is able to perceive movements even if those movements are faster than the user.

Mangekyo Sharingan (Kaleidoscope Copying Wheel Eye)

Visually, this eye looks different, but similar to the Sharingan.

The mangekyou Sharingan is a legendary ability which only a hand full of its’ clan members have. In a flashback, Itachi told Sauske that there was a scroll located in their clan shrine that would reveal the true origin of the mangekyou; however, we have yet to discover this much.

Byakugan

The Hyuuga clan were one of the founding families of the Leaf Village. The clan itself is said to be the ancestors of the Uchiha clan, who possess the highly desired Sharingan. Each member of the Hyuuga family possess “White Eye” or “Byakugan”. When activated, the user gains an extreme amount of sensory perception, allowing them to have penetrating sight and telescopic vision.

Aburame

Clan Location: Konoha Village
Known Members: Aburame Shino, Aburame Shibi

The Aburume clan is mostly known for its association with bugs. When a member of this family is born, the bugs enter the hosts body and live in symbiosis. The bugs within the hosts body feeds off its chakra, as a living source; in return, the user is able to command the bugs at will. They can be used for both offense and defense. The female bug carries a scent which can be used for tracking. The bugs can also be sent out to scout and report the data when the return. This makes this clan extremely talented in spying and stealth because they make very little, if not, any noise or movement while in combat.

Akimichi

Clan Location: Konoha Village
Known Members: Akimichi Choji, Akimichi Chouza

The Akimichi clan contains two of the most obese ninja in Konoha. They are able to convert calories into chakra. This allows them to increase the mass of their bodies and perform special techniques that makes it difficult for the user to take physical damage.
The Akimichi clan also has three pills that can be used as a last resort in battle. The pills from weakest to strongest are: Blue pill, Yellow Pill, and the Red Pill last. When taken, these pills can multiply and give the user extreme power for a short amount of time. However, with such power comes much strain soon after, so much that some have even died after taking the pill because of the strain that is applied on your body shortly after.

Hyuuga

Clan Location: Konoha Village
Known Members: Hyuuga Hanabi, Hyuuga Hiashi, Hyuuga Hinita, Hyuuga Hizashi, Hyuuga Neji

The Hyuuga clan are one of the longest existing clans within Konoha, but they are more known for their bloodline: the Byakugan. Every member of the Hyuuga family is born with the Byakugan. The clan is not regulated like most clans are, instead the clan is divided into two families: the main house and the branch house. The branch house is controled by the main house via seals, and uses the branch family to protect the main family and its’ secrets. If the branch family chooses to rebel for whatever reason, the members of the main family could easily end their life because of the cursed seal the branch family has.

Inzuka

Clan Location: Konoha Village
Known Members:Inzuka Kiba, Inzuka Tsume, Inzuka Hana

The Inzuka clan is mostly known for its ties with Canines. Each clan member seems to have a canine who acts much like a partner. They are given these canines at an early age which makes them inseperable.They are able to take on the shapes of canines and use canine-related jutsu. The physical atributed of the Inzuka are red painting on their faces, and animal-like eyes with enlarged teeth and hands that resemble claws and fangs.

Uchiha

Clan Location: Konoha Village
Known Members: Sauske Uchiaha, Itachi Uchiha, Obito Uchiha, Fugaku Uchiha, Mikoto Uchiha, Shisui Uchiha, Madara Uchiha

This was once the most powerful clan in Konoha, but unfortunately this clan has now been reduced to only two remaining survivors. The name Uchiha is another way of pronoucing “Uchiwa”, a fan, which is also the symbol for the Uchiha. The clan uses fire jutsu and is more known for the Sharingan.

Nara

Clan Location: Konoha Village
Known Members: Nara Shikamaru, Nara Shikaku, Nara Yoshino

The Nara clan is known for its ability to manipulate shadows. Utilizing this, they are able to use their shadows to stop the movement of their opponents completely. They can also manipulate shadows and have them follow people, or use them to as weapons.

Akatsuki

The Akatsuki kanji translates to daybreak. By most standards, it’s a small organization. They have 7-10 members at the most and they are all S-class criminals who have left their village after causing death and destruction (also known as missing-nins). The requirements to join akatsuki are unknown; however strong abilities and slaying seem to be prerequisites. In contrast, Deidaras case tells us that some members are forcibly recruited.

Akatsuki members are usually seen in teams of two. The teams are each built to compliment each others abilities. However, in some cases, team members display animosity towards one another, but do not let it interfere with the task at hand.

We rarely see the Akatsuki meeting in person, instead, we see them using telepathy or some form of astral projection when needed. We were introduced to the group as a whole near the end of the first part of the series in the form of astral projection. One member even stated that it had been 7 years since they had regrouped in such a fashion. The Akatsuki only group together because they have have a common goal with each other.

Appearance & Apparel

Members wear a bamboo hat(traditional style) to hide their appearance when traveling. The hat can be taken off when entering battle. Each member of Akatsuki wears a forehead protector from their former villages. It has a scratch across the symbol of their village. This means that they are no longer in alliance with that village. All members of akatsuki appear to wear a long, dark cloak. The interior is red in color and matches the red clouds that are displayed on the exterior of the cloak. The members of Akatsuki have light colored finger nails and toe nails.

The ring placement on the finger represents their position on the summoned statue. Each member has their own unique ring placed on a different finger. The members appear to value the rings as Deidara was looking desperately for his, and Orochimaru took his with him when he left the group, allowing him to be un replaced. When Sasori passed, Tobi was anxious to take Sasori’s ring, but needed to get through the a few test first.

Goal

The goal of Akatsuki is to control the world. To achieve this goal, the leader has broken the process into three steps:

The group must collect money. With a lot of money, they plan to support their organization.
They plan to form their own mercenary group. Once they do this, they will build reputation and start accepting missions for less than the usual price. The excess is covered by the funds obtained in step 1. It’s been a while since there have been wars, so the shinobi villages would be unable to charge such low prices. In effect, this would lead smaller countries to hire Akatsuki over the more expensive shinobi villages. Using the Bijuu (tailed beasts), they can create new wars and battles to dominate the market. From this, they plan to control all the wars and even take down the shinobi villages of the larger countries, forcing them to rely on Akatsuki as well. Without any money from business, the shinobi villages will eventually fall due to lack of funds. This will make Akatsuki the only major force, allowing them to proceed to step 3.
If step 2 is achieved, then the goal of Akatsuki is complete: to control the world.

Deidara is a missing-nin from Iwagakure. Deidara’s palms have mouths that are able to create exploding clay. By combining the clay with chakra and molding it, he is able to create live explosives that are mobile. Deidaras clay can even create

explosives that range from a microscopic level, to a gigantic size. Deidara is also able to use the clay for less-violent creations as he can be seen using the clay to create birds for transportation.

Deidara wears a scope on his left eye for long-ranged observation. He lost both of his arms in battle. One was ripped off by Kakashi, and the other was crushed by Gaara. He later had his arm reattached by Kakuzu. He was formerly teamed with sasori, but after his slain, Tobi took his spot

Uchiha Itachi

Itachi Uchiha is a missing-nin from konohagakure as well as the first member of Akatsuki to be introduced to us. Itachi and his brother are the only remaining survivors of the Uchiha Clan. In the past, Itachi killed every member of his family, and shortly joined Akatsuki. He has complete mastery of the Sharingan and the Mangekyo Sharingnan. He is also a master of ninjutsu and genjutsu. Kisame is his partner.

Kisame Hoshigaki

Kisame is a missing-nin from Kirigakure. Unlike some of the Akatsuki members, Kisame and his partner, Itachi, seem to get along pretty well. Kisame has a shark-like appearance, with blue skin and small white eyes. He has gill-like facial structures, and edgy sharp teeth. His name, Kisame, translates to “Demon Shark”.

Despite his grungy and edgy look, Kisame speaks in a calm and civil manner compared to most of his fellow org members. But do not be fooled by this. In the past, Kisame was also one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. From that, he adapted the name Scourage of the Hidden Mist. He enjoys fighting and the idea of ripping ones body apart.

Tobi

Tobi is the former subordinate of Zetsu. After Sasori’s death, Tobi takes his ring, position, and partner. While many of the other members in Akatsuki appear to be more serious, Tobi seems to be much more comical and carefree. After Deidara’s final attack against Sasuke, Pain is shown reporting orders to Tobi who them claims to possess the Sharingan and be Uchiha Madara himself. When ‘claiming’ to be Madari, Tobi’s carefree personality turns more serious and he appears much more sinister. His exact abilities are yet unknown other than the fact that physical and usually fatal blows are ablve to pass right through him.

Zetsu

Zetsu is also a missing-nin. Not much is known about him, but from what we have seen he functions as a spy for Akatsuki. His eyes are yellow and pupil-less, and his body seems to be divided into two halves. The two halves, one colored white and the other colored black, can com

municate with each other. Both surrounded by a structure similar to a venus flytrap. Very little of zetsu has been seen, but each time, he is seen alone.

Orochimaru (Former Member, Un replaced)

Orochimaru was a former member of Akatsuki where he worked as Sasori’s partner. After he was not chosen to be the Fourth hokage, Orochimaru began to practice forbidden jutsu. He then fled the leaf village where he joined Akatsuki. Six years prior to the series started, Orochimaru attempted to use his Living Corpse Reincarnation jutsu to steal Itachi’s body. Unfortunately, Orochimaru failed and as a result, Itachi responded by effortlessly paralyzing him.

Shortly after this incident, Orochimaru left Akatsuki and took the ring with him. This made him un replaceable in the organization. Such acts has made Orochimaru the target of several Akatsuki plots. Orochimaru holds a very strong grudge towards Akatsuki and has plans of eliminating them, however, he us currently presumed to be dead.

Kakuzu

Kakuzu is a missing-nin from Takigakure. Kakuzu is seen as a greedy person who prioritizes things in terms of how much they are worth, finding money to be the only thing he can depend on. So much, most of his money comes from completed bounty mission rewards.

Kakuzu’s body structure is very unique. It consists largely of black threads(veins?) running throughout his body. They allow him to detach parts of his body for long-ranged attacks. The threads or veins themselves can also be used for attacking, allowing him to pierce bodies and some surfaces with ease. The threads appear to be limitless as they can be used to change his physical form also. He is able to merge foreign organs into his system, allowing him to extend his life by taking the healthier parts of others. This has been used many times to increase his life span. In addition to merging foreign organs, he is also able to use the abilities of his opponents. With his own natural water abilities, he also has access to Wind, Fire, Earth, and lightning abilities.

Hidan

Hidan is a missing-nin from an unknown village and he’s the second-newest member of akatsuki (Tobi being the newest). He has a large rope scythe and even himself stated that he’s the slowest attacker of the group. He practices Jashin, which is a evil god cult religion. This religion loves chaos and death, and Hidan, who survived after being decapitated, considers himself near immortal.

Sasori (Former Member)

Sasori is a missing-nin from the Sunagakure. He is a powerful ninja puppeteer. His name means Scorpion, and travels with Deidara. Sasori converted portions of his body into puppet parts, retaining the flesh and blood portion of his original self in a chest container. He even had a jutsu, Hitokugutsu, which was used to turn living people into puppets. This allowed him to use their jutsu long after death.

Pain

Pain is the leader of Akatsuki, but both he and Konan secretly report to Tobi. Pain exists through six different beings which share the same mind and vision known as the Six Paths of Pain. The common physical similarities amongst them are their hair color, numerous peircings, and the highly noticable Rinnegan which gives the user access to all six types of elemntal chakra. All the members in the org respect him highly except for Hidan. He is also the one directing their actions as well as the jutsu that forcibly brings the Bijuu out of it’s host. Using his human sacrifices, he is also able to use a Shape shifting Technique for creating exact replica’s. When it is necessary to speak with his subordinates, he can communicate with them all via telepathy from very long distances.

Konan

Konan is the only female ninja in Akatsuki. When Konan was younger, Yahiko, Nagato and herself were orphaned by one of Amegakure’s many wars, leaving them to support themselves alone. The trio eventually ran into Jiraiya, who took care of them for a short period and taught them basic ninjutsu. From what we have seen, Konan has a strong association with paper due to her strong natural talent for origami. She is able to divide her body into smaller, countless pieces of paper. Some of the sheets of paper can be manipulated and controlled individually for specific purposes such as scouting or as weapons.

There are twelve main handseals used by ninja to perform jutsu. Each jutsu has a different combination of seals needed to perform that jutsu. Each seal represents a animal on the chinese zodiac.

Jutsu (Techniques)

Techniques (also known as Jutsu) are the arts that ninja use in battle. In order to perform a jutsu, the ninja will need to apply his chakra.

The chakra can come from two places: your cells and mental & spiritual energy gained from experience. The ninja will release these two energies before performing a jutsu. Soon after that, the hand seals are formed and the creation of the desired jutsu is started.

Jutsu are ranked depending on the difficulty or skill needed to perform them. In total, there are 6 ranks plus two additional informal ranks for special situations. The rank of a jutsu doesnt necessarily mean that it will be more effectice than a lower-ranked jutsu, but just more difficult to perform properly. The informal ranks are Hiden jutsu and Kinjutsu.

Hiden jutsu are jutsu that has been passed down from generation to generation within a clan. These jutus are not ranked since no one outside the clan knows how to perform them.
Kinjutsu sometimes fall into one of the six main ranks, but there are some exceptions because they are forbidden (or looked down upon) to learn and perform.

Some things that usually indicate if a technique is categorized as forbidden is if it causes great harm to the user (such as opening the eight gates), or if they are sinister in nater (such as the revival jutsu performed by Orochimaru).

The Six main Jutsu ranks are:

E-ranks – Academy Student

This is where would-be ninja would start. They are not considered ninja, however, until they graduate. The academy students take tests both formal and practical in addition to being taught martial arts, techniques, and basic ninja skills. Basic weapon usage is commonly taught, and the elementary ninja techniques are taught also.

D-Rank – Genin

This is the lowest level of the ninja and also the ones that display the most difference in power. When the ninja become Genin, they do missions that benefit the villages economy. They are typically sent on D-rank missions (the lowest mission rank). These missions are usually risk-free and potentially offer little to no harm.

C-Rank – Chuunin

Chuunin are the ninja who qualify to watch over and guide the other ninja. They have reached a level of maturity that mostly consists of leadership skills and tactical prowess. In order to become a Chuunin, a Genin participates in a large exam with his or her teacher.

B-Rank – Jounin

Jounin are highly-experienced ninja with great skill who serve as military captains. They are usually sent on A-rank missions, and experienced Jounin can even be sent on S-rank missions. They are sometimes assigned as sensei for three-person teams of Genin.

A-Rank – Kage/Jounin

S-Ranks – Serious/Extreme

S-Class ninja have gained far more power than the average Jounin. The title is more of a class rather than an actual rank though. The relationship among these ninja vary from being part of the village to a ninja who wonders, but still maintains loyalty to their village such as Jiraiya.

Elements & Jutsu

The jutsu a ninja uses are base of various elements. The five main elemental styles are also the five names for the five great shinobi countries (fire, wind, lightning, earth, and water). Each ninja has the potential to use a style better than the other or more. A special elemental detecting paper is used in order to determine ones type. The paper comes from trees which are specifically grown with chakra. When a user channels a portion of their chakra to the paper, the paper will react and reveal the users type. If the users type is Fire, the paper will burn. If the users type is wind, the paper will split in two. If the users type is Water, the paper will become wet. If the users type is Lightning, the paper will crumple. And if the users type is earth, then it will fall apart.

Each of the five elements contain a strength and a weakness. The fire element is stronger than the wind element. The wind element has an advantage over lightning. Lightning has an advantage over earth. Earth has an advantage over water, and water finishes the cycle off by finishing out fire.

Cursed Seal Jutsu

Cursed seal jutsu are jutsu that use a special “cursed seal” to put the opponent under control. A prime example of this would be when Orochimaru initially planted his curse seal on Sauske during the Chuunin exams.

Fuuinjutsu (Sealing Techniques )

Fuuinjutsu are sealing techniques the ninja uses. They enable the ninja to contain the element and demons. Examples of this type of jutsu would be when Shukaku was ‘placed’ inside Gaaras body via Fuuinjutsu technique.

Ninjutsu (Ninja Techniques)

Ninjutsu is usually almost any technique that requires chakra, and allows the user to do something that they otherwise would not be able to do. While Genjutsu makes the opponent see illusions, the effects of ninjutsu are very real. Ninjutsu relies strongly on chakra and most of the time, hand seals. The hands are formed in different positions that shape the chakra into the needed manner to perform the jutsu.

Taijutsu (Body Techniques/Hand-to-hand combat)

Taijutsu is associated with any techniques that involve martial arts or the use of human abilities in general. Taijutsu is much more easier to execute than Ninjutsu or Genjutsu because it is executed by taping directly into the users stamina, rather than converting the users stamina to chakra. Although chakra is never used in taijutsu, there are some exceptions. The Hyuuga clan uses chakra in their Gentle Fist style of attacking, and Tsunade and Sakura combine chakra into their attacks in order to deal more damage.

Genjutsu (Illusion Techniques)

Genjutsu techniques are the illusion techniques of a ninja that normally require hand seals. Genjutsu will use hypnosis to cause hallucinations in the opponent. By using such realistic illusions, they can cause their target mental pain that is just as real as taking physical damage. Genjutsu is created when a ninja releases their chakra flow from the cerebral nervous system of their opponent, controlling their minds chakra; thus, affecting all five senses.

Depending on the user, countering Genjutsu could be difficult. But there are two options to counter Genjutsu. The first option is to stop the flow of chakra in there body, applying an even stronger force to ‘override’ the casters flow of chakra. The second way is to have an outside user who is unaffected by the Genjutsu use their chakra to disrupt the casters chakra flow.

Ninja Ranks

E-rank – Academy Student

This is where would-be ninja would start. They are not considered ninja, however, until they graduate. The academy students take tests both formal and practical in addition to being taught martial arts, techniques, and basic ninja skills (including the way of the ninja). Basic weapon usage is commonly taught, and the elementary ninja techniques are taught also.

When graduating, students recieve a special band of fabric with a metal bar bearing the symbol of their village. This is more commonly known as a “forehead protector”. In some cases, they are given additional tests by the Jounin to see if they are indeed ready to graduate. To ensure that only truly qualified ninja are promoted, only three genin teams are allowed to pass. The test for determining which three teams are allowed to become genin are directed by each teams Jounin commander.
