Hi Fandomers!
Naruto Manga Chapter 507 titled A Living Lie is finally here! I apologize for the delay of the review. My summer is officially over as I began my first week of school, so I have been very busy. I literally came in yesterday and went straight to sleep. Sowwie! >.< On a better note, this weeks chapter was great! I especially loved it because it gave us flashbacks and anyone who knows me knows that I love flashbacks! :3
So, the battle between Gai and Kisame finally resumes. Many people seem to think that this first page looks like DBZ, and I agree. Kisame looks like he’s about to do a Kamehameha better than Goku!
Gai and Kisame’s attacks look pretty awesome. The illustration of the entire panel is beautiful! Kisame’s Giant Shark Missile is more than an ordinary water blast because it absorbs the target’s chakra and gets bigger. This attack could be deadly against a ninjutsu-based opponent. Unfortunately for Kisame, his opponent, Gai, is a Taijutsu user who uses little chakra if any, compared to most ninja if they were in his shoes right now. This makes it clear why Kisame’s attack didn’t consume the chakra from Gai’s attack like he initially expected. Against most opponents, Kisame is usually strong and has the advantage especially if the user relies heavily on chakra based attacked, but this is one situation where Kisame has run into an opponent who can be seen as his nemesis.
By the time Kisame realizes that Gai’s attack is not a chakra blast, it is too late. Gai reveals that the Afternoon Tiger is a combat move and not a ninja technique. It’s basically a simple punch, but faster than any other punch out there. The punch focuses a massive amount of air pressure on a single point, and then explodes the built-up pressure in a single instant. Gai is a very talented Taijutsu user. What’s even more interesting is that the user who opens the Wonder Gate pours glowing blue sweat from every inch of their body. Sounds like those Gatorade commercials, eh?

Killerbee’s rapping never fails to keep me laughing. If Gai having colored sweat like Gatorade commercials isn’t enough, then try smelling it! lol
The blue sweating looks cool, but the smell… lol. Kisame is finally apprehended. Now we know why Kishimoto put Aoba where he is now. It’s because of him, we are able to go inside Kisame’s head and learn more about him and his past via flashback. I heart flashbacks.
A trip down memory lane. We see a younger Kisame on a mission with his comrades. Things get even more interesting as we learn through Aoba how Kisame obtained Samehada. The previous wielder was more than likely one of the former Seven Swordsmen. I think the previous wielder of Samehada is pretty cool looking though. Physically he(she? lol) looks a lot like Garnet’s mother from Final Fantasy 9. lol. But really, it would have been great to learn more about him. The previous wielder of Samehada, Kisame’s master, said to always protect your comrades, the codes, but more than anything else, never let the enemy get their hands on anyone from the intel squad and to defend the codes to death! #pewpew
It’s these codes and information passed from Samehada’s previous wielder that pretty much ended up becoming Kisame’s way of life. When Kisame is found by the enemy, without hesitation, he kills his comrades to prevent information leaking. He even killed the previous wielder of Samehada to prevent information leaks. It’s during this moment that Kisame becomes the rightful wielder of Samehada. I have always wondered how Kisame obtained Samehada so it was nice to see a backstory.
The figure from the shadows is finally visible and it’s Yagura <3, the fourth Mizukage! Yagura tells Kisame that he will work directly for him. Kisame appears doubtful as he thinks it will only be a matter of time before he is eliminated too. It makes you wonder just how many people and Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist did Yagura/Madara eliminate. Yagura tells Kisame that his world is nothing but lies but this isn’t a surprise to Kisame because he realized this long ago when he killed his comrades for the very first time.
These two pages are great!
A figure appears behind Yagura who reveals himself as Madara. Lets pause for a sec because I want to take a second to note a few things because this confirms a few things that have been speculated for a while. First, the more obvious, are the rumors surrounding the idea of Yagura being controlled (from the shadows). Back during the meeting with the 5 Kage, Mei, the Fifth Mizukage, shared that her predecessor, Yagura, was rumored to have been controlled by someone. Now we know for certain who that was. Next, during the same Kage meeting, Danzo shared that there were 4 people who were known to have the ability to control Bijuu: Hashirama, Madara, Killerbee, and Yagura. It could be possible that Yagura was able to control the Sanbi (Three Tails) on his own but if he couldn’t, then Madara would control it. Next, there’s the moment when Tobi revealed his identity to Kisame and Kisame referred to him as the Fourth Mizukage. Now we know why Kisame addressed him as the 4th Mizukage. And lastly, the other thing I wanted to note is that back during the Kage meeting, Raikage stated that Kirigakure had no diplomatic ties to any of the other great nations and that Akatsuki was also rumored to have been formed there. This is true as we see that shortly after Kisame gained possession of Samehada, he was told he would work directly for Madara. I think during this stage of Akatsuki’s infancy is when Kisame became (one of) the first member(s) of the organization. But getting back to the page at hand, I find Yaguras expression on his face to be interesting. He looks surprised, but I’m sure he only looks that way because Madara is controlling him. By the way, where is Yagura’s sword?!
Ooof! I have been trolled by Kishi (again)! lol xD I actually thought I would get a glimpse of Madara’s face -__- lol. Just as we thought we would see Madaras face, Kisame bites his tongue to snap back to reality. Using his very last bit of strength, Kisame breaks free! :O Next weeks chapter may be the last time we see Kisame. Will he be able to swing things in his favor like he did when he absorbed Killerbee’s chakra? Will he try to escape? Will he follow the codes and kill himself to protect information from leaking? Will he die like a true soldier… or is it something else? Hopefully next weeks chapter will provide some answers.
